What is the Split PDF tool?

Split PDF lets you pull specific pages out of a larger PDF document. Upload your file, see every page as a thumbnail, click the ones you want, and download either a single new PDF containing just those pages, or each selected page as its own separate PDF file.

Everything happens locally in your browser — your file is never uploaded to a server, which makes it fast and safe even for private or sensitive documents.

How to use it

1. Drop your PDF onto the upload area, or click it to browse your device.
2. Every page renders as a thumbnail in a grid.
3. Click any page to select it — a checkmark and highlighted border show it's selected. Click again to deselect.
4. Use "Select all" or "Clear selection" to quickly select or reset everything.
5. Choose whether you want your selected pages combined into one new PDF, or downloaded as separate PDF files, one per page.
6. Click Split PDF and download your result.

Extract vs. separate files — which should you choose?

Choose "Extract selected pages" when you want one clean PDF containing just the pages you picked, in their original order — useful for pulling a specific chapter, form, or section out of a longer document.

Choose "Save each as separate PDF" when you need each page as its own individual file — useful for splitting a scanned batch of separate documents (like several receipts scanned into one file) back into individual files.

How it works technically

The tool renders a preview of every page directly in your browser so you can see exactly what you're selecting. When you click split, it copies only the pages you selected from the original document into a new PDF (or several new PDFs), preserving the original text, vector graphics, and formatting exactly as they were in the source file — nothing is flattened into an image in the final output.

File size and privacy

Because splitting happens entirely on your device, there's no upload wait and no privacy risk. Very large files or a very high page count may take a little longer to render thumbnails for, depending on your device's available memory, since everything runs locally rather than on a remote server.

Frequently asked questions

Can I select non-consecutive pages, like pages 2, 5, and 9?

Yes — you can click any combination of pages in any order, and they'll be extracted in their original page order regardless of the order you clicked them in.

Will splitting affect the quality of my pages?

No — the extracted pages copy the original content directly, so text stays sharp and searchable and image quality is unchanged.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Password-protected files need to be unlocked first. Use the Unlock PDF tool to remove the password, then upload the unlocked file here.

What happens to pages I don't select?

They're simply left out of your downloaded result — your original file on your device is never modified, so you still have the full original PDF as well.
